MINISTER DITOKA ATTENDS PEER TO PEER EXCHANGE

A delegation from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management and the Fiji NDMO, led by Hon. Minister Sakiasi R Ditoka and members of the Ministry's senior management arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia last night for a week-long peer-to-peer exchange.

The exchange programme is part of the Trilateral Cooperation Program between the Government of Indonesia - Australia - Fiji. Organised by the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Disaster Risk Management (SIAP SIAGA), on behalf of the Australian Embassy Jakarta, the visit to Indonesia aims to facilitate the sharing and exchanging knowledge as well as experiences on specific topics including the establishment of ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) and Disaster Management System in Indonesia.

The peer-to-peer exchange programme aligns with one of the Ministry's 5 Strategic Priority Areas (SPAs) of - Effective coordination and facilitation of national disaster operations and disaster risk reduction. Fiji, as the current chair for the Pacific Disaster Risk Management Ministers Meeting is grateful for this peer exchange opportunity to learn how regional coordination mechanisms are working in the Southeast Asia countries through the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) - Centre. The Inaugural Pacific Disaster Risk Management Ministers Meeting was endorsed in the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders meeting that recently concluded in Tonga.

Meanwhile, following their arrival into Jakarta last night, the delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Fiji's Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Amena Yauvoli where they presented their i-sevusevu before proceeding with this week's programme.

The delegation comprises of Hon. Ditoka as head of delegation, Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mr. Isoa Talemaibua, the four Divisional Commissioners - Mr. Josefa Navuku, Mr. Uraia Rainima, Mr. Apolosi, Lewaqai and Mr. Vitale Varo, and staff members of the Fiji NDMO.
