A heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6. Take precautions now to avoid heat illness. Designated cooling centers are open daily.
Excessive heat generally results in the highest death rate among weather-related hazards. In most of the United States, excessive heat is defined as an extended period (2-3 days) of intense heat with temperatures above 90 degrees. In extremely hot conditions, evaporation slows down and the body has to work harder to maintain a normal temperature. This can lead to death for pushing the human body beyond its limits. Menlo Park has air-conditioned facilities where you can escape the heat. This always includes both libraries and recreation center facilities during regular operating hours and during designated cooling center hours:
