August 5, 2024- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a child found at 5901 Long Drive about 3:25 p.m. on August 8, 2023.

The suspect, Gabriela Elyzabeth Deras, 22, is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court. A booking photo of Deras is attached to this news release.

The male infant was identified as Ethan Rosa Deras, 2 months old.

HPD Homicide Detectives A. Graf and E. Torres reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a meet-the-firefighter call at the above address and learned the infant was left in a vehicle for some time before he was discovered, unresponsive, by family members. Medical assistance was provided to the infant until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported him to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased.

Further investigation and an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined baby Ethan's manner of death to be homicide. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Deras, the child's mother, was subsequently charged.

Deras was arrested last Friday (August 2) without incident and then booked into the Harris County Jail.
