MARIETTA - On September 13th Red Hare Brewing & Distilling, Glover Park Brewery, Cultivation Brewing Co., and Horned Owl Brewing will team up for "Marietta Roots," a craft beverage event benefiting the c. 1845 William Root House in downtown Marietta. Beverages offered will include a selection of artisanal beers, seltzers, and sodas - some made with ingredients harvested from the Root House gardens.

The Root House was built for Hannah and William Root, early settlers of Marietta. William was one of Marietta's earliest merchants and its first druggist. Born in Philadelphia in 1815, William moved to Marietta in August 1839 to open a drug/mercantile store. William and Hannah had four sons and one daughter. The Root family owned the house from 1845 to 1886. Today the house is operated by Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society, Inc. as a historic house museum and gardens. The museum, named "Museum of the Year" by the Georgia Association of Museums in 2023, offers an in-depth look at daily life for the Root family as well as the enslaved people who worked and lived in Marietta prior to emancipation.

"As anyone who owns a historic house will tell you, they require constant upkeep and repairs," said Cobb Landmarks Executive Director Trevor Beemon. "Being 180 years old, and then adding to that the wear and tear of thousands of visitors per year - there's always something that requires our attention. That's why we're so thankful these breweries and restaurants are helping us raise funds for the museum."

In addition to local beverages, food samples will be available from local restaurants including Marietta Melt Yard, Jimpa's Catfish, and Sugar Shane's Gourmet Bakery. Tickets for the event are $35 per person online or $40 per person at the door. Admission includes four drink tickets and two food tickets.

ABOUT THE WILLIAM ROOT HOUSE: The Root House Museum is the first house museum in the U.S. to offer a fully self-guided touchscreen tour. One of the oldest homes in the Atlanta area, the Root House is more typical of its time and place than the columned mansions popularized by Gone With the Wind. While the home and grounds have been meticulously restored to their 1860 appearance, interactive electronic displays have been added to tell the story of the Root family and their enslaved house servants.

ABOUT COBB LANDMARKS: Since its founding in 1974, Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society, Inc. has succeeded in preserving and protecting some of Cobb's most historically relevant sites. Cobb Landmarks is a historical society rooted in the past but always looking forward. The organization is committed to empowering the community with an understanding of the events, people, and places that formed our past, so that we may all strive for a brighter future.
