Rep. Fitzgerald Statement on Passage of FY25 National Defense Authorization Act

December 12, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement in response to the passage of H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025:

"The FY25 Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act represents another step forward in Congress's commitment to our troops who dedicate their lives to defending our nation. This legislation prioritizes the well-being of our servicemembers and their families by authorizing a historic 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted troops and a 4.5% raise for all others. It addresses chronic issues in housing maintenance, expands access to childcare, and ensures servicemembers receive the medical and mental health care they deserve.

"These enhancements underscore our nation's gratitude and commitment to improving military recruitment, retention, and readiness while ensuring our troops and their families thrive. By focusing on these critical priorities, we not only strengthen our armed forces but honor the immense sacrifices made in service to our country.

"I am disappointed that House Democrats chose to walk away from a bipartisan deal to include provisions restricting certain outbound investments to China. These types of provisions are a necessary step to confront the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party."
