AMES, Iowa - The Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) is updating its Metropolitan Transportation Plan, known as Ames Connect 2050. This plan will look at the Ames metro area's transportation system over the next 25 years. The AAMPO is seeking public input on priorities and needs for the future of the Ames area's transportation system through an online survey and a public open house. The public open house is being held on:
When: 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21
Location: Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave.
At the open house, the public is encouraged to attend to learn more about the plan, provide feedback, and ask questions of the project team. All information from the public open house will also be available from Thurs., Nov. 21 through Friday, Dec. 6 on the AAMPO website via an online open house. The survey asks residents to share their opinions on transportation priorities for safety and mobility and will be open through Friday, Dec. 6.
"The open house and survey will give residents an opportunity to share their insights on our region's transportation needs - from walking and biking connectivity to public transit barriers," said Kyle Thompson, MTP Project Manager. "We want to hear everyone's vision for the future of transportation in the Ames metro. Diverse perspectives are crucial for developing the best possible plan."
The AAMPO will make every reasonable accommodation to provide accessible meeting facilities for all persons. Appropriate provisions for the hearing and visually challenged or persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) will be made if the organization is notified by Tuesday, Nov. 12. Call 515-239-5169 to request these accommodations.

MORE ABOUT AMES CONNECT 2050
AAMPO is developing Ames Connect 2050 by engaging with the public and conducting a comprehensive assessment of the transportation system. This involves analyzing crash frequency and location, evaluating patterns for all modes of travel, and forecasting future conditions. Public input is key for determining the region's transportation system vision for the next 25 years. When complete, Ames Connect 2050 will guide transportation decision-making through the year 2050 so that the agencies in the Ames area can adequately accommodate transportation system users. With Ames Connect 2050, partner agencies can plan for our mobility and safety goals and set short-term and long-term priorities for transportation investments for all system users, including walkers, bicyclists, transit riders, vehicle riders / drivers, and freight.
