CANYON, Texas - A trio of High Plains musicians will be in the spotlight at the next installment of West Texas A&M University's One Sessions concert series.
Grace Butler, Nelson McKinney and Travis Roberts will swap songs at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 in the AT&T HD Live Studio in the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex on WT's Canyon campus.
Admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and seating is limited.
Butler, a sophomore psychology major from Follett, has been creating music for as long as she can remember. With a guitar in hand and a song in her heart since age 7, Butler's work blends authenticity and soulfulness. While pursuing her degree, she continues to build her music career, captivating audiences with her lyrical storytelling and melodic style.
McKinney, a senior general business major from Amarillo, is bringing traditional country music back to its roots. Influenced by legends like George Strait and Keith Whitley, McKinney's sound blends classic country instruments like fiddle and steel guitar with heartfelt lyrics. With two singles and an upcoming EP, McKinney's music promises to transport listeners back to the golden age of the genre.
Roberts, a Canyon native and former WT student, is making waves in the country music scene after signing a record deal with a Nashville label. Known for his blend of modern and traditional country, Roberts is set to take his career to the next level. His music reflects both his roots and his aspirations.
The One Sessions series is produced by and the Media Communication program in the Department of Communication in the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities. The concert series offers a platform for talented artists to showcase their work and connect with the community. These intimate performances, recorded live, capture the essence of each artist's unique style while providing a memorable experience for audiences.
Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of the University's long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign's new goal is to reach $175 million by 2025; currently, it has raised more than $160 million.
