258 CUHK projects awarded over HK$243 million in Research Grants Council funding, ranking first among universities in successful applications to ECS & HSSPFS

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has secured funding for 255 projects by the General Research Fund (GRF) or Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2024/25, administered by the Research Grants Council (RGC). The total funding awarded to CUHK exceeds HK$240 million. CUHK's success rate, with 255 projects out of 750 applications, surpassed the sector-wide figure. It is noteworthy that CUHK has been awarded 42 successful ECS applications, ranking first among all universities, in recognition of the exceptional performance and great potential of the University's young researchers.

In Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) 2024/25, CUHK also has the greatest number of funded projects, with three out of 10 successful projects. Furthermore, CUHK's projects have been awarded the three highest funding amounts, ranging from HK$900,000 to HK$1 million per project, accounting for over 46% of the total funding.

CUHK's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har said she was pleased to announce the consistently remarkable accomplishments of CUHK researchers in these significant research support schemes. She added, "The RGC funding schemes, particularly the GRF and ECS, are the major source of research support for UGC-funded universities. The CUHK research community will continue to leverage these funds to make valuable contributions to society, amplifying the University's impact on the greater social good."
