SCSU & SCTCC Representatives Attend the National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium

Vice President for Technology Strategy & CIO Phil Thorson and Professor of Information Systems Mark Schmidt attended the National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium and the Executive Leadership Forum last week in St. Louis, MO. This event is an important part of SCSU's certification for the Masters of Science in Information Assurance (MSIA) program. SCSU and the MSIA program as have been recognized as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE-IAE) since 2009.

The National Security Agency (NSA) launched the CAE-IAE program in 1999 to recognize institution that pass rigorous curriculum and program requirements.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) faculty Brian Volkmuth received the certification for SCTCC's program at last year's event. Mark Schmidt and Erich Rice at SCSU partnered with Brian Volkmuth at SCTCC on a Department of Defense grant. This grant provides support for the 2024 - 2025 academic year. The main focus of the grant will be to establish partnerships with 2- year colleges and area high schools to present cybersecurity concepts.
