A print of a Luna Moth created by Joseph Scheer '84, retired professor of printmaking in Alfred University's School of Art and Design, is featured on a new stamp the United State Postal Service (USPS) will roll out in 2025.
The "Luna Moth" stamp was designed by Derry Noyes, stamp art director and stamp designer for the USPS, using a digital print of a Luna Moth which Scheer produced in 2001. Scheer created the image by making digital scans of the moth from a variety of angles and using composites of the scanned images to create a final print.
Joseph Scheer '84, retired professor of printmakingScheer, who earned a B.F.A. from Alfred University in 1984, served as a professor of printmaking at his alma mater from 1989 until his retirement last spring.
The Luna Moth stamp be issued in 2025, at a date to be announced. It will mark the first time that artwork created at Alfred University has been featured on a USPS stamp.
