Job market opportunities on the rise: A positive outlook for entry-level and mid-level job seekers

The tech job market is showing promising signs as the unemployment rate for technology occupations drops to 2.5%, marking the steepest month-over-month decrease in four years.

This trend is particularly encouraging for entry-level job hunters and those considering a mid-level career change. Key roles driving this growth include tech support specialists, data analysts, IT project managers, and network analysts, with a notable surge in demand for software developers, software engineers, and data scientists.

Notably, 46% of job postings in September did not require candidates to hold a four-year degree, according to CompTIA's analysis of Lightcast job posting data. This shift indicates that employers are increasingly open to hiring individuals without extensive tech experience, creating more opportunities for those with A+ certification and other tech certifications.

Our latest tech jobs report shows a bright outlook for advancing your career in tech without a four-year degree. A growing percentage of job postings in October did not require a four-year degree, including 88% of Network Support Specialist postings and 74% of IT Support Specialist postings.

Employers are also looking for a range of experience from candidates. Data on job search trends by years of experience shows that 28% of postings required 0 to 3 years of experience, 35% required 4 to 7 years, 33% required 8 years or more, and 14% of postings didn't specify a level of experience.

The top metropolitan areas for job postings in October included Washington, D.C., New York, and San Francisco, with states like California, Texas, and Virginia also seeing a high volume of job postings.
