Our new guidelines provide tips and advice for people wanting to nominate someone for a New Zealand Royal Honour. Royal Honours recognise individuals for their outstanding service and achievements that have positively impacted communities, regions, or the nation. They are announced by the Governor General on New Year's Day and the King's Birthday in the Royal New Zealand Honours list.

Anyone can nominate someone for a Royal Honour. If you know of someone from your community or organisation who should receive an award, please discuss this with other people to see if they agree. The person's contribution must be significant and have had a positive impact on others.

At the King's Birthday in June 2024, at least 10 people with an ethnic heritage received a Royal New Zealand Honour. They were recognised for services to migrant and ethnic communities, sport and health, among other contributions. Congratulations to everyone who received an award.

It can take some time to gather all the relevant information and to write the nomination so have a chat to other people from your community or organisations and get started. Applications can be submitted anytime.
