Daily updates: FAO at Summit of the Future and UNGA79

New York - The General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), taking place 24-30 September, gathers world leaders to engage under the theme of "Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations".

This year, the General Debate will be preceded by The Summit of the Future (22-23 September) and its Action Days (20-21 September), inviting the international community to come together to deliver a better present and safeguard the future.

FAO Director-General will lead the FAO delegation at this year's high-level period of the GA. Check this page daily for FAO's engagements at UNGA79, Summit of the Future, and Climate Week NYC.

Summit of the Future Action Days: Shaping the Future of Digital Cooperation

FAO's Chief Information Officer and Director of the Digital FAO and Agro-informatics Division, Dejan Jakovljevic, spoke at the panel of the side-event 'WSIS in Action: Shaping the Future of Digital Cooperation'. He stressed the urgent need for digital solutions and global collaboration in digital governance to enable the transformation of agrifood systems and to achieve the SDGs.

Summit of the Future Action Days: Extraordinary Meeting of the Local2030 Coalition Steering Committee

The Director of the FAO Liaison Office of the United Nations in New York, Guangzhou Qu, opened and closed the Extraordinary Meeting of the Local2030 Coalition Steering Committee at the Summit of the Future Action Days. FAO is the co-chair of the Local2030 Coalition along with UN-Habitat. During the meeting, he highlighted one of the most urgent actions is ending hunger, eliminating food insecurity, and all forms of malnutrition.

"By focusing on sustainable food systems, we not only combat hunger but also tackle climate challenges and promote peaceful, inclusive societies. The work we do to support vulnerable populations and build resilient communities is key and is about ensuring that our local actions create lasting, tangible benefits on the ground across all dimensions." Guangzhou Qu said.
