With the NASCAR Cup Series season rapidly approaching its thrilling finale, four drivers have officially clinched their spot in the "Championship 4" at Phoenix Raceway - Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron. As fans gear up for the ultimate showdown in the desert, Sonoma Raceway is already looking ahead to the only California stop on the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, July 11-13, 2025.
We've previewed the finale on November 10 as well as given our top reasons to want to see them in Sonoma come next year.
Joey Logano
Joey Logano made his Team Penske's fuel strategy call work to perfection to claim the South Point 400 victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, clinching the first spot of four NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 berths.
While all eyes are on Logano for the 2024 championship race and continuing his streak of making the finale in every even-numbered year since 2014, his history at Sonoma Raceway gives fans an extra reason to get excited for next year. The 2018 and 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Champion has been a consistent contender at Sonoma, known for his skill on the technical road course. Over the years, Logano has tallied multiple top-5 finishes, highlighted by a standout 3rd place finish in 2023 and 4th place in 2021, making him a driver to watch on the West Coast.
Tyler Reddick
Northern California (Corning, CA - to be exact) native Tyler Reddick officially clinched his spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 with a thrilling last-lap pass at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Just as there's a lot of hype for Reddick in the Championship race, there's an equal amount of excitement about his progression at his home track of Sonoma Raceway - after sub-par finishes in 2021 and 2022 (19th and 35th respectively), he posted his first-career top-10 finish of 8th.
Ryan Blaney
For the second straight year, defending series champion Ryan Blaney won the NASCAR Cup Series Round of 8 elimination race at Martinsville Speedway to advance to the Championship 4.
Blaney will look to become just the 12th driver ever and the first since Jimmie Johnson in '09 and '10 to win back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series championships.
"Young Ryan Blaney" as he's often referred to has seen success at the wine country crown jewel Sonoma Raceway, racking up three top-10 finishes in his last five races at Sonoma. See one of NASCAR's most popular drivers as he makes his way to California for the only time in 2025, as NASCAR takes on Sonoma Raceway July 11-13!
William Byron
As Ryan Blaney took the checkered flag to win Sunday's Xfinity 500, Christopher Bell made a kamikaze move into the final corner in a futile attempt to deprive William Byron of the final spot in next Sunday's title event at Phoenix Raceway.
Bell drove hard into Turn 3 on the final lap, passed Bubba Wallace for the one point he needed, slipped up into the wall and rode the fence through Turn 4, committing what NASCAR deemed a safety violation. Bell was penalized for positions to 22nd allowing William Byron to advance to the Championship 4.
William Byron keeps Hendrick Motorsports' streak alive, having five years in a row with at least one HMS driver racing for a championship in the season finale.
Byron historically has run very well at road courses over the last two years with five top-5 finishes over nine road course races. Don't miss your chance to see if he can take home the victory in Sonoma and taste the red wine from the iconic Champion's Goblet in 2025.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series also saw NASCAR's rising stars battle it out to make up another incredible Championship 4 - including Los Gatos, CA native AJ Allmendinger, Austin Hill, Cole Custer and Justin Allgaier. Don't miss these drivers as they take on Sonoma for the third-ever NASCAR Xfinity Series race in wine country on July 12, 2024.
