Walltown Small Area Plan Update; Open House September 7

The first chapter of the Walltown Small Area Plan is now ready for you to review and share your feedback.

The Walltown Small Area Plan will include recommendations describing what residents do and don't want to see regarding how land is used in Walltown. This could include new development (both public and private) and improvements to publicly owned places like streets.

An in-person open house to review the plan is scheduled for September 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Walltown Recreation Center.

Youth Mentoring Organizations Call for Feedback

Our Office on Youth and the Youth Mentoring Collaborative have been hearing from young people across Durham about their vision for a Youth Mentoring Alliance. Now mentors, caregivers, and mentoring organizations are invited to share their thoughts!

Upcoming events will be held in-person September 12 and 19 and virtually on September 17. Learn more and register today.

Durham Police Hosting Women LEED Event September 21

Our Police Department will be hosting a Women LEED (Law Enforcement Exploration Day) event where women in the community can come learn about starting a career in law enforcement. The event is open to women in the community (ages 16 and older) who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Learn more from a panel of sworn female officers who will discuss a variety of topics and share more about opportunities with our Police Department.

The event will be held at Durham Police Headquarters, 602 E. Main St. on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Registration is required.

MED Week Events October 14-17

Minority and women-owned business owners will have a chance in October to learn how to connect their businesses with more opportunities during our 2024 Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week.

Each year, MED Week celebrates the accomplishments of minority business enterprises and honors those corporations and financial institutions supporting minority business development.

The deadline to register to attend the free events is October 3.
