Passing of Hurricane Chido over Mayotte

The Brazilian government was deeply saddened to learn of the devastarion caused by cyclone Chido in Mayotte, a French overseas department located in the Comoros archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The cyclone was the strongest storm to hit the region in more than 90 years, affecting homes, infrastructure and essential services, resulting in 14 deaths and over 250 injuries (provisional figures).

Brazil expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and its solidarity with the people of Mayotte and the government of France.

In this time of sadness, Brazil calls on partner nations to redouble their efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change, in response to the increasing number of extreme natural events.
