Sen. Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Strengthen Lung Cancer Prevention in Georgia

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to strengthen lung cancer prevention for Georgia families.

Today, Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the bipartisan Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventative Services Act to support cancer prevention research in Georgia and across the country.

The bipartisan bill would require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to conduct an interagency review of the status of women and lung cancer. The interagency review would include data from HHS, the Department of Defense, and Department of Veterans Affairs to identify new opportunities for collaborative research and provide recommendations for national cancer screening strategies.

"Early cancer detection saves lives. That's why I'm helping lead Senators in both parties to support cancer prevention research and better protect Georgians from lung cancer," Sen. Ossoff said.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to increase Georgians' access to lifesaving and preventative health care.

In April, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to pass the bipartisan Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act, legislation he co-sponsored to expand early detection cancer screenings for Georgia seniors.

In 2023, Sens. Ossoff, Mike Braun (R-IN) and Thom Tillis (R-NC)'s introduced a bipartisan amendment to the Senate's Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill to help expand breast cancer screenings for veterans.

In 2023, Sen. Ossoff led a bipartisan push to bring new medical research funding opportunities to Georgia.
