Washington, DC - Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
Two years ago, Rep. Mary Peltola made history as the first Alaska Native ever elected to the United States Congress. Every day since then, Mary has kept hardworking Alaskans and "Fish, Family, Freedom" at the center of all she has accomplished in the People's House. From securing historic renewable energy investments, to passing legislation that will protect Alaska's fisheries, Mary has been able to block out the partisan noise in Washington and work across the aisle to deliver tangible results for the communities she loves so dearly.
Mary has shown tremendous resilience during a time of immense personal loss and she embodies what it means to be a Representative for all Alaskans. The hardworking people of the Last Frontier have been fortunate to have her fighting for them.
I wish Mary and her family the best as she begins this next chapter in her public service and professional journey.
