Durbin, Duckworth Announce $15.9 Million In Funding For Clean Manufacturing In Illinois

CHICAGO - Today, U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced $15.9 million in funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) coming to Illinois through the Inflation Reduction Act to support efforts to report and reduce climate pollution from the manufacturing of construction materials and products.

These awards from the Inflation Reduction Act-the largest climate investment in history-will reduce climate pollution by helping Illinois businesses measure the carbon emissions associated with extracting, transporting,and manufacturing their products.

"Advancing clean manufacturing in Illinois and across the U.S. will create thousands of good-paying jobs, bolster domestic production, and cut harmful pollution that contributes to the climate crisis," said Durbin. "I'm glad Democrats fought to pass the Inflation Reduction Act to support these initiatives across our state."

"From creating good-paying, local jobs to increasing sustainability and strengthening our supply chains-investing in clean manufacturing has a positive ripple effect for hardworking Illinois families and our nation," Duckworth said. "I look forward to continuing to work alongside Senator Durbin as we implement all of the exciting new initiatives that were made possible because of the Inflation Reduction Act across our state."

Recipients of funding through the EPA awards include:

1. Aluminum Extruders Council - $699,366

2. Prestressed Concrete Institute - $9,975,000

3. Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse (dba the Rebuilding Exchange) - $3,887,329

4. Holcim US, Inc. - $1,371,814

5. University of Illinois (with Oklahoma State University) - $9,990,311

6. American Institute of Steel Construction (with the University of Massachusetts Amherst) - $6,371,426
