U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $614,400 for Infrastructure Improvements to Support Disaster Resilience in Sausalito, California

WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $614,400 grant to the city of Sausalito, California, to support transportation infrastructure improvements designed to bolster disaster resilience.

This grant will facilitate a vulnerability and feasibility study that will guide future flood mitigation improvements on the city's Gate 5 Road. This EDA investment will be matched with $153,600 in local funds.

"The Economic Development Administration works closely with local communities to support their disaster resiliency and recovery strategies," said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. "This investment will support Sausalito in its efforts to improve the community's economic resilience by mitigating the potential for property and infrastructure damage related to future severe weather events."

"California is on the front lines of intensifying climate impacts and the state is working urgently to make our communities more resilient and bolster preparedness," said Governor Gavin Newsom. "We're grateful for this support to the City of Sausalito, which will advance their efforts to protect property and critical infrastructure from flood impacts."

This project is funded under the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023, which provided EDA with $483 million in additional Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program funds for disaster relief and recovery for areas that received a major disaster declaration under the Robert T. Stafford Act as a result of Hurricanes Ian and Fiona, wildfires, flooding, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2021 and 2022.
