MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 18, 2024) - The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Pennsylvania American Water announced today that the Foundation awarded a $25,000 State Strategic Impact Grant to York County Veterans Outreach to support the county's significant veteran population.
"York Countians take care of their veterans. With an estimated 28,000 veterans and their families living in York County, we come together as a community to help support our hometown heroes," said Susan Byrnes, co-founder and board chair of York County Veterans Outreach. "Pennsylvania American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation have truly stepped up to be community partners in this important work, and we are incredibly grateful for this grant and their support. As the largest single grant we have ever received, this is a big deal for York County veterans and their families."
York County Veterans Outreach assists veterans and their families, helping them access resources, services and programs to meet their short-term and long-term goals. The charitable nonprofit organization partners with other community groups across York County to provide support and services to the county's veterans and their families. In 2023, York County Veterans Outreach and its partners worked together to provide nearly $90,000 in programming, services and resources to veterans and their families - including emergency financial assistance, food, housing, mental health and wellness resources and other services.
"At Pennsylvania American Water, we believe in investing in the communities we serve - helping to Keep Life Flowing, not just with physical upgrades to our treatment systems but also through community partnerships that help improve lives and strengthen families," said Thom Chiomento, Pennsylvania American Water, Vice President of Business Development, Government Affairs and External Affairs. "We are proud to partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation to provide York County Veterans Outreach with a charitable grant, knowing that each dollar invested in our community's veterans builds stronger communities, empowers those who have served our nation and creates opportunities for a brighter future. Together, we are building a stronger York County."
The State Strategic Impact grant is part of the 2024 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. State Strategic Impact grants support high-impact projects and initiatives throughout American Water's national footprint.
"The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with organizations that align with Pennsylvania American Water and support the veteran community," said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation.
This is the second State Strategic Impact Grant awarded by the Foundation in York County over the last month. In November, the Foundation and company presented York County Food Bank with a $10,000 grant to help address food insecurity across the county.
