FPA of New England To Be Honored for Exceptional Pro Bono Financial Planning Programming

FPA of New England is recognized as the 2024 Power of Financial Planning Award winner.

DENVER (July 17, 2024) - The Financial Planning Association^® (FPA^®) and the Foundation for Financial Planning (FFP) are pleased to announce the FPA of New England as the recipient of the 2024 Power of Financial Planning Award. The award is in recognition of their commitment to delivering pro bono financial planning in the spirit of FPA's Primary Aim: To elevate the profession that transforms lives through the power of financial planning.

In its sixth year, the Power of Financial Planning Award recognizes an FPA chapter and its members' efforts over the past 12 months to provide quality pro bono financial planning and advice to underserved populations.

"FPA chapters and members have played a significant role in engaging underserved communities nationwide to offer pro bono financial planning advice. They understand that such advice can be life-changing and lead to long-term financial well-being," says 2024 FPA President Claudia Kane, CFP^®. "FPA of New England has proactively engaged the local community to make financial planning more readily accessible to those who need it. We look forward to recognizing their impactful work at FPA Annual Conference 2024 in Columbus from September 18-20."

FPA of New England is being recognized with this year's Power of Financial Planning Award to celebrate its close collaboration with several organizations working to improve the financial wellness of people in the region, specifically Massachusetts. The Chapter's pro bono and financial wellness work included:

• Massachusetts Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE): For the past 15 years, the Chapter has partnered with the OEE, a department of the state treasurer's office, to provide financial literacy to Massachusetts residents. This long-standing collaboration has seen the Chapter provide financial coaching to seven community-based organizations, conduct 'Train the Trainers' coaching on retirement planning and identity theft for community leaders, and testify in support of bipartisan legislation requiring financial literacy education as a condition of high school graduation.
• Jewish Vocational Service Boston (JVS): In partnership with JVS, the Chapter supported the Workforce Training Program by providing financial coaching and financial wellness presentations to support a largely immigrant population. The work the chapter did over the past year is an extension of the work the Chapter has done with JVS over many years of close collaboration.
• Homes for Our Troops: The Chapter is proud to have among its ranks many members who are either active-duty service members or veterans, which has uniquely positioned the Chapter as a valuable partner to organizations like Homes for Our Troops, where volunteer financial planners provide financial education and pro bono financial planning services. Among its work over the past year, the Chapter provided financial coaching to support the unique financial challenges associated with military service, coached a wounded service member in the financial ramifications of homeownership and participated in that service member's Key Ceremony in May 2023, supported a Homes for Our Troops fundraiser in November 2023 with financial and volunteer support, held five education events, and helped another wounded service member qualify for a new home after providing financial coaching.

The FPA Awards Committee recommended, and the FPA Board of Directors approved, FPA of New England as the recipient of the 2024 Power of Financial Planning Award.
