A-State Museum to Celebrate Día de los Muertos with Festivities

JONESBORO - Arkansas State University Museum will honor Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a night dedicated to the holiday from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.

According to Jill Kary, A-State Museum curator of education, the free family-friendly event is open to the public.

Día de los Muertos is a Hispanic cultural holiday that brings people together by honoring loved ones who have passed away.

Kary says attendees can expect "sugar-skull face painting, music, paper flower making, and more, El Día de los Muertos offers non-stop fun for visitors of most ages."

Guests are encouraged to bring photos of loved ones who have passed on.

"The centerpiece of the evening will be an elaborate El Día de los Muertos altar known throughout Mexico as ofrenda, meaning offering. On the ofrenda, guests are encouraged to display pictures of their beloved deceased and to leave handwritten notes to them," said Kary.
