New Record Set for Largest Zapin Dance at 4th Malay Finesse Fiesta

More than 300 student participants set a new Singapore Book of Records for the largest Zapin dance at the 4th Malay Finesse Fiesta (Fiesta Kesantunan) today. The mass dance celebrates Malay culture by showcasing the grace and poise of Malay dance movements.

2.Organised by the MLLPC, the biennial fiesta aims to create an engaging environment for the younger generation to immerse themselves in the richness of Malay finesse1. Themed Adab Disemai, Budi Dituai (Sow Good Etiquette, Reap Respect), the fiesta will feature an escape room and interactive learning booths by preschools, primary and secondary schools, junior colleges, Millennia Institute, and the National Library Board. The activities will allow participants to experience and appreciate Malay etiquette in their daily lives.

3.Dr Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education and Chairperson of the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC), was the Guest-of-Honour at the launch ceremony of the fiesta, where he presented awards to the winners of the Senada Seirama (Choral Speaking Competition), Simfoni Kata (Song Writing Competition) and Alun Mutiara (Poem Writing and Skit Competition). Over 340 students from 26 primary schools, secondary schools and junior colleges participated in the competitions, which were held in conjunction with the fiesta.
