US 84 New Signalized Intersection scheduled activation Aug. 7 in Flemington

FLEMINGTON, GA -The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) will activate a new signalized intersection Wednesday, August 7 at the intersection of US 84 and Old Sunbury Road in Liberty County.

While not expected to be in service for the Wednesday morning commute, the signal should be fully functional by midday. Local law enforcement will handle traffic control during activations. Message boards will be in place this week near the intersection to alert motorists of this new traffic signal location and activation date. Weather conditions and other factors may affect this schedule.

This signal is among the final elements of the Department's operational improvement project which encompasses the realignment of Old Sunbury Road and Old Hines Road and US 84 turn lanes. This $5.6 million project at Flemington Curve will enhance safety and improve mobility at this busy intersection.

Motorists are advised to always proceed cautiously through this intersection, but most certainly so next week during activation and the days to follow as drivers become acclimated to the new signal.

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
