New Online Guide Helps Phoenix Business Owners Enhance Security

​The City of Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University, launched a new online crime prevention guide to help local business owners better protect their commercial properties. The educational guide adopts the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), which discourages crime and disorder through strategic planning, design and management of properties. The goal is to make businesses look and feel safer for customers, and less inviting to criminals.

The new CPTED page offers business and property owners practical advice and strategies to effectively secure their properties. Securing a property can be as simple as altering a few designs, such as lighting placement, trimming back overgrown vegetation, or adding visible security measures like fencing or signs. By adopting CPTED principles, business owners can create safer, more secure environments that not only protect their assets but also enhance the overall customer experience.

The new CPTED guide website is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the City's Community Safety Plans and the Phoenix Police Department, in partnership with Arizona State University's Center for Problem-Oriented Policing. This initiative is another example of the City's proactive approach to community safety and crime prevention through its Community Safety Plans, a collaborative, multi-department program to address community safety concerns along the I-17 corridor.​
