City Adds New Temporary Storm Debris Management Site for Recovery Operations
SAVANNAH - The City of Savannah has secured a secondary storm debris collection site on a vacant lot at 1301 Bee Road to handle vegetative material more efficiently from the final citywide pass by contractors.
The one-acre site, owned by the Housing Authority of Savannah, will temporarily host operations from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily beginning this week. The added site will reduce the distance between collection points in the neighborhoods and the primary collection site at the Dean Forest Road Landfill.
The new Bee Road site will be limited to use by the City's debris contractor. Residents are encouraged to place out storm debris following guidelines or continue self-hauling storm debris to the Bacon Park Transfer Station or Dean Forest Road Landfill.
Work at the site is expected to generate some noise during operational hours. Trucks will be entering and exiting the site via E. Anderson St. and E. Henry St. with minimal impact on traffic.
The City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this week with the Housing Authority of Savannah to utilize the vacant lot.
Since operations began in October, the contractor activated by the City has removed over 72,000 cubic tons of vegetative storm debris left in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Operations are expected to conclude at the end of December.
