The Boston Police Department Remembers The Service And Sacrifice Of Officer Danford D. Dunn 138 Years Ago

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer Danford D. Dunn. On Tuesday July 6, 1886, Officer Danford Dunn succumbed to injuries sustained in the line of duty weeks prior. Officer Dunn was kicked by his horse while participating in the City of Boston's Anniversary Celebration of the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Officer Dunn was 36 years old at the time of his passing and had served with the Boston Police Department for less than four years. He was survived by his wife and laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain.

His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on Panel 2, East Line 32. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.
