Weekend closures of 12 Mile Road, Telegraph Road to Northwestern Highway, in Southfield, expected on Sept. 20 22 and Sept. 27 29 for culvert work

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will close 12 Mile Road from Telegraph Road (US 24) to Northwestern Highway (M-10) for two upcoming weekends. In both cases, 12 Mile Road will close at 9 a.m. on Friday (Sept. 20 and Sept. 27) and re-open on Sunday evenings (Sept. 22 and Sept. 29).

The closures are necessary for removing and replacing culverts under the road to prepare for the resurfacing project on 12 Mile Road, Telegraph Road/US 24 to Northwestern Highway/M-10 in 2025.

The weekend work is weather-dependent, and the schedule could change.

Weekend closures:

  • 12 Mile Road, just east of Franklin Road (east of Pine Aire Street), will close from Sept. 20 through Sept. 22.
  • 12 Mile Road, just west of Cass Avenue, will close Sept. 27 through Sept. 29.

Residential and business access will be maintained east and west of the culvert replacement locations.

The detour for through traffic is Telegraph Road/US 24 to 13 Mile Road to Inkster Road, back to 12 Mile Road and vice versa. The work is being done during the weekends to minimize traffic impacts.

The contractor for the project is Dan's Excavating of Shelby Township. This section of 12 Mile Road carries approximately 23,500 vehicles daily.
