Tajani: Italy supports the Venezuelan people

"Italy stands alongside the Venezuelan people, who have expressed their will," declared the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, emphasising the urgency of respecting the democratic vote, which has been undermined by numerous manipulations of the vote's outcome, especially in the transmission of data, as recorded by independent electoral observers.

Tajani also recalled the recent statement by the G7 Foreign Ministers, of which Italy holds the rotating Presidency this year, and condemned the use of force by Nicolás Maduro's regime against protesters.

In this regard, Tajani expressed strong condemnation for the detention measures taken against Venezuelan citizens, including Italo-Venezuelans, and expressed serious concern about the ongoing limitations on press freedom in Venezuela: "We assert the right to information for local, Italian, and international journalists currently in the country."

All Italian diplomatic and consular offices in Venezuela, coordinated by the Italian Embassy in Caracas, are fully operational to provide assistance to Italian nationals in a situation that remains fluid and continuously evolving.

The Government is in close coordination, both on the ground and in multilateral organisations, with major international partners.
