House Education and the Workforce Committee Votes to Advance Rep. Wild’s Bill to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse

September 11, 2024

Today, the House Education and the Workforce Committee voted to advance Congresswoman Wild's Jenna Quinn Law of 2024 with strong bipartisan support. Named after a survivor of child sexual abuse, this bipartisan bill would authorize grant funds to be used to train students, teachers, school employees, and caregivers on sexual abuse prevention.

"Protecting our children is not a partisan issue-it's a moral imperative," said Congresswoman Susan Wild. "Our educators deserve the training and resources they need to effectively intervene in situations of abuse, and our children deserve to feel safe in their classrooms. I'm grateful for my colleagues from both sides of the aisle who voted to advance this critical legislation."

The Jenna Quinn Law of 2024 would:

  1. Authorize the Department of Health and Human Services to allow federal grants to be used for eligible entities for increasing evidence-based or informed training on sexual abuse prevention education and reporting to teachers and school employees, students, caregivers, and other adults who work with children.
  2. Ensure these grant recipients coordinate with local educational agencies to train students, professionals and volunteers who work with students on sexual abuse prevention, recognition, and reporting.
