UW Faculty Recital Series Presents Duo Piano Recital Oct. 6

The University of Wyoming Department of Music's Faculty Recital Series presents "Passing the Torch," featuring pianists Theresa Bogard and Brock Tjosvold, Sunday, Oct. 6.

Bogard, UW professor of piano, and Tjosvold, one of Bogard's former students and a UW alumnus, will perform at 3 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

The program will feature Brazilian and French works for two pianos and piano four hands by Zequinha de Abreu, Germaine Tailleferre, Hercules Gomes, Darius Milhaud, Henrique Rabelo, Francis Poulenc and Ronaldo Miranda.

Bogard, a Steinway Artist, is a versatile performer dedicated to expanding the canon of traditional piano repertoire. A world traveler with a passion for other cultures, Bogard has performed throughout the United States and in 16 countries on five continents. Her extensive discography includes recordings ranging from solo piano to chamber music collaborations, from music of living composers to her specialty in fortepiano and historical performance practice.

Bogard has served on the faculty of the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Germany. She has performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and the Ravinia Steans Music Institute with cellist Misha Quint.

Pianist, vocal coach and conductor Tjosvold serves as an assistant professor of vocal coaching at the Eastman School of Music. Previously, he was music director of the Crane Opera Ensemble at State University of New York-Potsdam, which, during his tenure, won first place in its division of the 2022-23 National Opera Association Opera Production Competition and third place in the opera performance category of The American Prize.

As a doctoral student at Eastman, Tjosvold won the 2020 Excellence in Accompanying Award and the Ann C. Fehn Memorial Award in the 2021 Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition. He has performed with the Grand Teton Music Festival, the Albany Symphony, the New World Symphony, the Battle Creek Symphony, Finger Lakes Opera, the Art Song Preservation Society of New York and at Carnegie Hall.
