Celebrating 10 years of Fforwm Iaith Ynys Môn

This year marks ten years since Fforwm Iaith Ynys Môn (Anglesey's Welsh language forum) was established.

To celebrate, the forum is hosting a special event at the Anglesey Show to reflect on its work over the past decade and outline its plans for the future.

In 2014, Isle of Anglesey County Council, along with Menter Iaith Môn, decided that greater focus was needed on the Welsh language locally and that establishing a county-wide forum of key organisations was the answer.

Since then, the forum's membership has grown to over thirty local and national organisations who share the Council's passion and commitment to the Welsh language.

Councillor Dafydd Roberts, education and Welsh language portfolio holder on the council's Executive said: "To have such an influential and well-established Welsh language forum on Anglesey is constant strength to us as a council. No one organisation can sustain the language alone and collaboration between the partners is essential to achieve the national vision of a million Welsh speakers by 2050. We wish the forum well as it celebrates this important milestone and look forward to working together for many more decades to come."

The celebration will include a panel discussion with the forum's current chair, Annwen Morgan, and others, facilitated by local journalist, Carwyn Jones. The conversation will focus on the forum's plans to increase the use of Welsh within families, in social settings and workplaces.

Annwen Morgan said: "Since becoming chair almost a year ago one of my main aims is to make sure that everyone on Anglesey - whether they speak Welsh or not - knows about our forum and our efforts to make a difference to our communities. The Anglesey show is a great opportunity to connect with residents and visitors, and we extend a warm welcome to anyone who wants to know more about us to join our celebration."

The event will be held at 10am on Wednesday, 14 August 2024 at Menter Môn stand (C8) at the Anglesey Show.

It is funded through Menter Môn's 'Balchder Bro Môn' programme as part of the UK government's Shared Prosperity Fund, with additional financial support from the Nuclear Recovery Services (NRS) on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
