NEW: Rob Mercuri May Have Hid His Investments From The IRS

Rob Mercuri was found by the IRS to have potentially understated his 2018 taxable income by nearly $25,000 and could have owed the government thousands in taxes and a penalty. Mercuri then amended his tax return, in which he copped to omitting income made from investments and admitted that there were hundreds of dollars in additional taxes owed.

This recently uncovered scandal is the latest in Mercuri's shady record and utter lack of financial transparency.

Mercuri has repeatedly come under fire for taking trips paid for by lobbyists. While in the state legislature, he "topped the list " as the most egregious recipient of outside gifts and travel - receiving more than $30,000 in trip reimbursements before proceeding to leave "a closely watched gift-ban on the cutting-room floor."

Now that Mercuri is running for Congress, his complete disregard for ethical norms is catching up with him. The U.S. Department of Justice has already been encouraged to investigate Mercuri's attempt to deny Pennsylvania voters critical information about his personal finances.

According to the complaint, Mercuri had "numerous reporting errors and concerning omissions"' in his 2023 Personal Financial Disclosure report that, "taken together, appear to have resulted in the improper disclosure, or complete non-disclosure, of between $681,024 and $1,694,000 worth of assets."

DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
"Rob Mercuri has been abusing his elected office for years, hiding his finances and failing to disclose information that is vital to voters. He is a corporate shill, and he can't be trusted to put Western Pennsylvania ahead of his own interests.
