Commissioner King Joins the Atlanta Community Food Bank to Fight Food Insecurity

ATLANTA - Today, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King is joining the Atlanta Community Food Bank to address the rising prevalence of food insecurity in Georgia.

Despite distributing approximately 10 million pounds of food each month, the Atlanta Community Food Bank still faces challenges in meeting the rising need. Food demand has increased by 40% in the past 18 months, with 1 in 8 Georgia residents struggling to put food on the table. Each day, 1 in 5 children in Georgia will go to bed hungry.

"Food Actually" is a friendly, two-week fundraising competition among the metro Atlanta insurance industry, including but not limited to; insurers, brokers, agents, TPA's, and other supporting services. This event is an opportunity for team building, positive community engagement, collaboration with colleagues, clients, and partners in your efforts - all while impacting the lives of Georgia families. The goal for the 2024 competition is to raise at least $50,000 to provide 150,000 meals before the holidays.

Competition Rules:

  1. The event begins Monday, October 7, and will end on Friday, October 18.
  2. Every $1 contributed equals one point. Additional points can be earned by volunteering at the Food Bank, sharing the event on social media, and recruiting new teams.
  3. Donations and volunteering efforts can be supported by employees, friends, family, and customers.
  4. Count all employees when registering and appoint one or two team leaders to manage participation.
  5. The company with the highest funds raised per employee will receive the ATL Community Food Bank President's Award.

Georgians are encouraged to contact their local insurance agents and companies to join this effort. For every $1 donated, the Atlanta Community Food Bank can provide enough food for 3 meals. Click here to join the fight against food insecurity.
