Social Security & Medicare Advocacy Group Says Nebraska Seniors Can Trust Tony Vargas

"The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC is proud to endorse Tony Vargas for election to the House of Representatives. Tony Vargas is a lifelong public servant and will be the voice that older Nebraskans need to represent them in Congress. Seniors face a huge choice this election. The future of Social Security and Medicare are on the line. Nebraskans can trust Tony Vargas to be a leader in the fight to protect and expand their Social Security and Medicare benefits.

Vargas' opponent, Don Bacon, tries to present himself as a moderate. This couldn't be further from the truth. While Tony Vargas was fighting to expand Medicaid to working Nebraskans, Bacon was busy trying to undermine and cut programs that seniors rely on. Bacon voted to strip away health care coverage from Nebraskans and eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions. He sided with Big Pharma by voting against the Inflation Reduction Act. Bacon also supports cutting benefits for younger workers, forcing hardworking Nebraskans who will need Social Security the most to work longer and earn less of their earned benefits.

For his part, Vargas says, 'As a state senator, I've supported tax cuts on Social Security income and fought to secure funding for affordable housing and healthcare because I understand the challenges that working families and seniors in Nebraska face.' He continued, 'Unfortunately, this district's current Congressman is campaigning on slashing social security benefits. Don Bacon has voted to gut Medicare. And, most recently, he voted against a bill that would cap the cost of insulin for seniors and lower the costs of prescription drugs.'

The choice couldn't clearer: Don Bacon has a long record of paying lip service to seniors' interests while voting against them. Tony Vargas has walked the walk in fighting for older American and their families. NE-02 is one of the most important elections in the country and the stakes couldn't be higher. By electing Tony Vargas and a pro-senior majority in Congress, Nebraskans have the chance to send a message to Washington: Hands off our Social Security and Medicare!" - Max Richtman, President & CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
