Nashville native Scotty Hasting enlisted in the Army in 2010 as an infantryman. His first assignment was with 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kansas.
Hasting received a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge for his service in Afghanistan. After being wounded in combat, he joined the U.S. Paralympic program where he excelled in archery.
After his medical discharge, Hasting took up the guitar; this new talent helped him to overcome the feelings of isolation and silence. Not only did he find his own way to deal with his PTSD, he also signed a record deal with Black River Entertainment in late 2023, and released three singles, one of which is entitled, "'How Do You Choose.'"
Today, Hasting spends his free time helping Veterans who struggle to come to terms with their lives. He volunteers with CreatiVets and Guitars 4 Vets. In his own words, he said, "I want to show people that it may be bad now, but I promise you it's going to get better." He believes this is his purpose in life: to help give people with disabilities and Veterans who feel that they are at the end of their line reasons to wake up tomorrow, therefore changing their lives forever.
We honor his service.
