Minister of Foreign Affairs attended 25th ASEAN Plus Tree FMM, 14th EAS FMM, and 31st ASEAN Regional Forum in Vientiane

On 27 July 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting (APT FMM), the 14th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting (EAS FMM), and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) on the sidelines of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMC) in Vientiane, Lao PDR, detail as follows:

(1) The 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting (APT FMM), where Foreign Ministers of ASEAN, Japan, China, and Republic of Korea were in attendance, Thailand underscored the significant role of the APT as a functional cooperation mechanism to address common challenges in the region, discussed ways to strengthen APT cooperation, as well as called for enhancing cooperation in connectivity, food security, finance ecosystem, and public health. In addition, the meeting discussed to prepare for the upcoming 27th ASEAN Plus Three Summit this October, as well as exchanged views on regional and international developments;

(2) The 14th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting (EAS FMM), where Foreign Ministers of ASEAN, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia, and the U.S. were in attendance, reviewed the EAS cooperation and charted its future direction, as well as discussed to prepare for the upcoming 19th EAS Summit this October. In addition, they also exchanged views on regional and international issues including on Myanmar, South China Sea, Korean Peninsula, and the Middle East;

(3) The 31st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference (AMM/PMC) was attended by a total of 27 Foreign Ministers of ASEAN, dialogue partner, related countries and organisations. During the meeting, Thailand stressed the role of ARF as a discussion platform for confidence building and preventive diplomacy through dialogue and practical cooperation. Foreign Minister Maris also emphasised the ARF's revitalisation and the maintainance of ASEAN centrality as keys to enhance resilience amidst ever-changing challenges. In addition, the meeting adopted the ARF Statement on Enhancing Regional Cooperation on Ferry Safety, which Thailand co-sponsored, and 2 ARF Work Plans, as well as approved the List of ARF Track I Activities for the Inter-Sessional Year 2024-2025. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
