LSBU Engineering researcher wins global award

27 June 2024

Elias Eid, who is a PhD Engineering researcher at LSBU, has won the 'Best Student Paper Award' at the IIR International Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain (ICCC) in Tokyo, Japan.

Elias is an LSBU School of Engineering researcher and won the global award for his research paper on how restaurants can use technology to make carbon savings and tackle climate change. The research paper found measures including more efficient refrigeration and kitchen equipment could deliver a 15.6% reduction in carbon emissions from restaurants.

National awards won by LSBU School of Engineering students and staff in the past year include:

Professor Ian Mackie, LSBU Dean of the School of Engineering, said, "The subject of the research work that Elias Eid won this prestigious global award for couldn't be more important. Tackling climate change is one of the biggest global challenges and I am proud Elias Eid and researchers across LSBU are studying this critical issue and making proposals about how we can reduce carbon emissions."

Elias Eid, LSBU PhD Engineering researcher, said, "I am incredibly proud to have won the 'Best Student Paper Award' for my research about the best ways restaurants can make carbon savings. These include using more efficient refrigeration and kitchen equipment which could deliver a 15.6% reduction in carbon emissions in restaurants. By reducing carbon emissions from restaurants, we can make real steps towards net zero."
