"Earth Day 2022 is an opportunity to highlight the UAE and Dubai's contributions to mobilise global efforts to fight climate change and host major international events with an array of decision-makers and senior officials and stakeholders in climate change to discuss key sustainable solutions. These events include the Expo 2020 Dubai, the MENA Climate Week, and the World Green Economy Summit. The UAE is also preparing to host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28). DEWA supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build a sustainable future for current and future generations. We also support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai's total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. To achieve this, we have several projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. DEWA has played a substantial role in Dubai's reduction in carbon emissions and reducing carbon dioxide in Dubai by 33% in 2020, surpassing the target of Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2021 by more than the double," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

"We provide all our services 24/7 through our website and smart app. We also provide innovative services that help to conserve electricity and water. These include the Smart Living initiative, the High-Water Usage Alert and the Smart Response initiative. We launch programmes and initiatives throughout the year to raise awareness of protecting valuable natural resources. These efforts have resulted in substantial savings between 2012 and 2021, up to 2.2 TWh of electricity and 5.6 MIGD of water. This equals AED 1.2 billion, reducing 1.1 million tonnes of carbon emissions," added Al Tayer.
