July has turned dry in Hammen's area, stressing crops on marginal ground. "Things on the bottom grounds seem to be going backward," he said July 26. Hammen has also seen several farmers doing multiple post herbicide passes, trying to keep waterhemp at bay. "I think we're seeing the efficacy of herbicide coming into question," he said.
