UPDATE: State Police investigating two person fatal crash in Clay


UPDATE:

Investigation determined that a 2014 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on County Route 57 speeding through a red light at the intersection and struck a 2016 Ford Escape, that was traveling westbound on State Route 31. As a result of the collision, the 2016 Ford Escape overturned and struck a utility pole.

The single occupant of the 2014 Mustang, operated by Michael E. Paetow, age 72, from Liverpool, NY, was transported to Upstate University Hospital and pronounced deceased.

The operator of the 2016 Escape, Shaylee A. Allen, age 26, from Tully, NY, and back passenger Roxanne Rizzo (11-month-old), sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The front passenger, Dawn M. Brown, age 58, from Syracuse, NY, was transported to Upstate University Hospital and pronounced deceased.

On October 13, 2024, at about 11:17 a.m., State Police Lysander and North Syracuse responded to a two-car personal injury accident at the intersection of State Route 31 and County Route 57 (Oswego Road) in the town of Clay.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and State Police can confirm that two people have perished as a result of the accident.

State Police are currently on scene reconstructing the accident, conducting interviews, and are asking citizens to avoid the area. The estimated time of closure will be three to four hours. More information will be provided as soon as available.
