Free Technical Assistance & Cash Stipend Available for Low Embodied Carbon Construction Projects

A partnership between StopWaste and Arup is now offering free technical assistance and cash stipends to support low-embodied carbon strategies in construction and renovation projects. Eligible projects include municipal and multifamily projects (new construction, major rehabilitation, and interior renovation) located in Alameda County, California.

Apply today to supplement your existing project design team with technical support focused on incorporating low-embodied carbon strategies in your project, including:

  • Low-carbon concrete
  • Bio-based/carbon-storing materials
  • Deconstruction/reuse
  • Materials optimization measures from green codes & rating systems

Customizable Technical Assistance

A team of subject matter experts led by Arup will provide up to 40 hours of free analysis and support customized to your needs on topics such as:

  • Advising on materials procurement to comply with embodied carbon codes
  • Navigating Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Life-Cycle Assessments (LCA)
  • Identifying suppliers for lower carbon materials
  • Reviewing specifications
  • Facilitating a design charrette
  • Producing a case study of the project

$2,000 Cash Stipend

In addition to technical support, design & construction teams are eligible for a $2,000 flat rate stipend to offset time spent incorporating innovative materials specifications and processes.

Application and Process:

  1. Submit the Interest Form with details about your project.
  2. Arup will schedule an enrollment session to determine the scope of services which best supports the design team interests.
  3. Once the Technical Assistance plan is agreed upon, Arup will enlist the right team to implement the plan.
  4. Project owner or architect invoices Arup for the $2,000 stipend.

Project owners must be contracted with a design team to receive the TA and stipend. This program will be available through June 30, 2025.
