WEST GLACIER, Mont. [July 17, 2024] - Glacier National Park Artist-in-Residence, Brenda Zlamany, will exhibit artwork and make a presentation at the Hockaday Museum in Kalispell, Mont. on July 25, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on her project "Climate in America." The event is free and open to the public.

This event culminates Zlamany's residency at Glacier National Park and marks the latest chapter in Zlamany's multi-year, global initiative "The Itinerant Portraitist," and will serve as a celebration for the portrait subjects.

The exhibition will include watercolor portraits painted during Zlamany's residency, each representing one of Glacier National Park's remaining glaciers along with images of portrait subjects posing with their finished artwork, with potential video and audio components. Subjects include park staff, community members, scientists, and visitors. Also included in the exhibit are landscape paintings capturing the natural beauty of Glacier National Park.

During the talk and slide presentation, Zlamany will discuss her decade-long "Itinerant Portraitist" project, the "Climate in America" series, her unique camera lucida portraiture process, and the critical role of humanity as environmental stewards.

Since 2011, Zlamany has explored the constructive effects of painted portraiture in communities around the globe. This has taken her to countries such as Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba, and Slovakia where she has created over 2000 portraits. Each chapter delves into social and cultural themes, with Zlamany using a camera lucida, an optical device that superimposes an image of her subject onto her drawing surface, to foster engagement and dialogue during portrait sessions.
