Land managers are invited to discover the inspiring new video series, Land Management Champions, which highlights the remarkable stories of individuals across Greater Sydney who have successfully restored their properties to enhance biodiversity and protect the environment.

The series features four short, professionally produced videos that cover a range of topics, including conservation, sustainable farming, and Aboriginal knowledge. Linda Dedovic, a Natural Resource Management Officer at Greater Sydney Local Land Services (GS LLS), describes the videos as an engaging storytelling series featuring champions identified by GS LLS for their long-standing commitment to sustainable land management.

"Each video is around four minutes long. They showcase the journeys of these champions as they share their experiences as land managers. The series includes three videos featuring private landholders and one featuring an Aboriginal Elder," Linda explains.

These stories provide valuable insights into best practices in land management, encouraging others to adopt similar sustainable methods. By listening to the real-life experiences of these champions, other land managers can be inspired to make positive changes and see the benefits of long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.

"One video features Malcolm, who bought a mismanaged property previously grazed by cattle. Malcolm undertook the ambitious task of restoring it to its original state as a Highland Peat Swamp-a threatened ecological community. His work has potentially created the largest privately-owned swamp of this type, which filters substantial amounts of water from the upper catchment to the Coxs River and Warragamba Dam.

"Another video highlights Aunty Sharyn, a Gundungurra Elder, who shares her compelling story about the importance of Aboriginal fire knowledge in being able to effectively increase biodiversity whilst reducing fuel loads in bushland. Her connection to Country and her obligation as an Elder to care for Country, by following in the footsteps of her ancestors is inspiring viewing.

"Alexia, a passionate small farmer and sustainability advocate, narrates her journey from feeling overwhelmed by issues such as erosion and invasive weeds to gradually restoring her property. She improved soil health through rotational grazing methods, showcasing the transformative power of sustainable farming practices.

"The series concludes with Frank, whose property contains the threatened ecological community known as Basalt Cap Forest, renowned for its majestic Eucalyptus fastigata. Frank and his family have protected this precious ecosystem for many years while continuing to operate their flower-growing business."

The videos were filmed on the properties of three of the champions, as well as in National Parks, offering a diverse and authentic portrayal of the challenges and triumphs faced by land managers.
