New on TTB.gov: Tax Claim and Refund Processing Times

September 06, 2024│Office of Communications

Check out our new TTB Processing Times page for Tax Claims and Refunds where you can find information on current service levels.

Our processing times reflect the median number of calendar days it takes to process and pay a claim - from the time we receive it until we either approve or reject it (in full or in part) and issue your refund.

While the time it takes for your claim may vary, we aim to meet our customer service standards to review and pay claims within:

  • CBMA Importer Claims: 90 days
  • Manufacturer of Nonbeverage Products Drawback Claims: 45 days
  • All Other Tax Claims: 45 days

Be sure to check for updates each month - submission volume and resource levels can cause service levels to fluctuate.

To avoid delays, ensure claims are complete and include all supporting documentation. See the available resources [link to new page at Processing Times for Tax Claims and Refunds | TTB: Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau] to help you prepare your claim under the Ready to Submit a Claim section.
