Warner & Kaine Announce More Than $250,000 in Federal Funding for Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) announced $253,626 in federal funding for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport in Blacksburg. The funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program, which the senators have supported robust funding for through the annual federal budget process.

"Nearly 14,000 flights travel through the Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport every year-helping Virginians get where they need to go and local businesses thrive," saidthe senators. "This funding will improve the airport's tarmac and help support its operations for years to come. We look forward to continuing to strengthen infrastructure and support economic growth throughout the New River Valley."

The funding will help to rehabilitate approximately 33,333 square yards of the existing airport tarmac to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris. This project will also support the rehabilitation of 2,500 feet of the taxiway to extend its useful life.

Warner and Kaine have long supported efforts to improve Virginia's airports for travelers, including securing over $76 million in airport funding for 45 Virginia airports through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
