Runway 13L/31R at Dallas Love Field Airport to Close for Safety Improvements

DALLAS, TX - Dallas Love Field (DAL) announces the upcoming Runway 13L/31R closure for essential safety improvements and rehabilitation. The closure will begin on August 5 and tentatively last approximately 85 days, concluding on October 29.

The project, known as the Runway 13L/31R Runway Safety Area Improvements & Rehabilitation of Taxiway A, aims to correct runway safety area (RSA) deficiencies with comprehensive RSA grading and the installation of new drainage infrastructure along the Taxiway A side of the runway. This initiative addresses critical safety-related improvements within the RWY 13L/31R safety area and resolves an existing hot spot at the north end of Taxiway A.

"The regrading of the RSA meets a regulatory requirement of FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5300-1B," said Patrick Carreno, Director of the Department of Aviation. "We are committed to ensuring the highest safety and efficiency standards at Dallas Love Field, and these improvements are a vital part of that commitment."

During the 85-day closure, residents and travelers can expect all aircraft traffic to use RWY 13R/31L, leading to potential delays due to the reduced airfield capacity. The project has undergone thorough study and approval by the FAA, the Department of Aviation, consultants, and airlines, including SMS and Safety Risk Analysis panels.

Customers are advised to check flight statuses with their respective airlines for potential delays. During this period, area residents may experience an increase in noise exposure.

For any questions regarding the project, residents can contact the Airport Operations Center at 214-670-5683 and request to speak with a member of Airside Operations staff.
