Cardin, Sullivan Introduce Resolution Expressing Bipartisan Support for the Quad

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Ak.) introduced a resolution reaffirming the Senate's bipartisan support for the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue. The Quad, comprising of the United States, Australia, India, and Japan - four large and capable democracies in the Indo-Pacific - plays a vital role in strengthening regional security and strategic cooperation. The bipartisan resolution also welcomes global leaders to the upcoming Quad Leaders' Summit and underscores the bipartisan U.S. commitment to this important partnership.

"The Quad has consistently demonstrated its value to the prosperity and stability of the Indo-Pacific, addressing global health, climate, maritime issues, technology, and more," said Chair Cardin. "As President Biden welcomes the leaders of Australia, Japan and India to the United States for the 4th Quad Leaders' Summit, this bipartisan resolution signals the commitment of the U.S. Congress to the continued success of this partnership as it seeks to bolster U.S. national security and regional stability."

"I am happy to welcome the next summit meeting of the Quad leaders," said Senator Sullivan. "First convened under President Bush, revived by President Trump and continued under President Biden, the quad has become an important part of projecting American interests and values in the Indo-Pacific. At its core, the Quad is about protecting against the greatest geostrategic threat our four nations face - an increasingly aggressive and expansionist CCP."

The resolution recognizes the Quad's significant contributions to regional security, advocates for expanding people-to-people programs, and highlights the importance of sustained cooperation among Quad countries. It also supports continued U.S. foreign assistance for initiatives related to the Quad's goals and objectives.
