I am thrilled to announce that Sara Aridi has joined the Early Careers team as a journalism education editor to help explore an exciting newsroom partnership with The School of The New York Times.
In her new role, Sara will help look for ways in which the newsroom can leverage the existing School, a private for-profit program run by a third party, to teach journalism fundamentals and the importance of independence to high school students.
Sara comes to the team with a unique set of skills. She joined The Times in 2016 as a news assistant working primarily for the Culture desk and was a regular contributor to the Lens blog, The Neediest Cases Fund (now Communities Fund) and the At Home section. She particularly enjoyed covering an Arabic adaptation of "Chicago" and interviewing the musician Dave Grohl. She later joined the Home team, eventually becoming an assistant editor, where she has helped oversee the presentation of news on The Times's digital platforms during the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump and other key events.
Sara started her career at a news agency in Beirut and worked at a magazine in Dubai before pursuing her master's at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She has served as a journalism instructor at The School of The New York Times and has also taught at Columbia.
Sara begins her new role today. Please join us in congratulating her.
